Contrary to the common perception, a large percent of women in India, work. The National data collection agencies accept the fact that there is a serious under-estimation of women's contribution as workers. However, there are far fewer women in the paid workforce than there are men.

Jawaharlal Nehru had said “You can tell the condition of the nation by looking at the status of women.”

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Thaltej has thus been established with the core aim of economically developing and empowering women of all sections of the society by equipping them with various skills. With this aim the training in this Institute is provided free of cost so that they could acquire the skill for job & self employment easily.

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Thaltej was established in October 2000 following the order of Gujarat Government under the auspices of the Labor & Employment Department, Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar.

The above order was passed owing to the suggestion of the Employment & Training Department of the Government of Gujarat to provide an additional 5000 seats in ITIs, in which 1972 seats should be for ITIs of General Areas, 2016 seats should be for 6 new Mahila ITIs and 648 seats for ITIs in the Areas of Scheduled Tribe & their Sub casts.

The above mentioned trades were allotted for the academic session of August 2000 batch of Training. The session began at the premises of ITI Saraspur, until the Institute was established on a temporary basis in Thaltej. The Mahila ITI, Thaltej trainees were shifted to the Rented Building on 1st of November 2000, at the Residential Blocks of Menaka Society, Thaltej, Ahmedabad.

In 2001, 'O' Level Computer courses started to be given. Along with this, the post of 4 Group Kaushalya Sahayaks for Computer Courses, 1 Kaushalya Sahayak for English Language had been sanctioned.

After 8 years of the commencement of the Mahila ITI in Thaltej, the ITI got its own building, the state government instructed to construct a specially designed building on the plot given by the AUDA (Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority) in Memnagar area of Ahmedabad.

With an area of 576 Sq.mtr. the 3 storeyed building’s construction completed in around March 2008 with the name of ITI Thaltej.

The three storeyed building is well equipped with all the facilities from a ground floor parking to an elevator. The Institute got the B.U. Permission on 31st March 2008.

The Institute fully shifted to the new building in June 2008, the development work is going on with the initiatives of Central Government’s PPP (Public Private Partnership) scheme.
